Cupping

Free

*Contraindicated for people on blood thinners, bleeding disorders, anemia, cancer, DVT or blood clots

*Not for Prenatal - unless you've been receiving cupping before pregnancy

Cupping has been used throughout Egypt, Asia, India, and Greece for centuries. Cupping uses negative pressure (pulling up) to relax your fascia. Fascia is connective tissue that sits on top of and intertwines into your muscles. By unwinding your fascia this helps reduce tension in your muscles, improves range of motion and increases circulation.

I use silicone cups, which are squishy, and use both dynamic and static techniques. This can be used in many ways including on areas like the back and shoulders, to help with severely tight muscles, or on old injury sites that have lingering pain or scar tissue. I adjust the pressure of the cups based on your comfort level.

DOES IT HURT? ARE THOSE BRUISES?

Silicone cupping should not hurt. It may feel tight or pinchy but if it's hurting that is too much pressure. When multiple cups are placed it may feel more intense but as they sit your fascia and muscles will relax and you will feel the tension release from your body.

NO those are not bruises!  A bruise is caused by an impact trauma that damages your tissue. Cupping does not cause damage to your tissue, the most damage they do is the breakage of superficial capillaries. However, you don't always have a mark where each cup was placed. So what are the marks then? Stagnant fluid that your vascular system has not been able to filter out yet. Stagnant fluid happens when muscles are 'stuck' together and don't allow for proper circulation. Cupping brings this fluid up which then forces your lymphatic system to filter it out. This allows new blood to enrich the area with fresh oxygen and nutrients.

**The marks can last for up to 2 weeks depending on how dark they are. So if you have an event coming up don't add on cupping until after - unless you want a conversation starter! haha!
